Did you know?.....
The ANSI/BHMA standard for ADA low energy automatic door operators (A156.19) requires an an operator to be actuated by a knowing act. A knowing act may be a wall or jamb mounted actuator or non-contact wall or jamb mounted switch, a manual act such as pushing/pulling the door or an access control device like a card reader, keypad or keyswitch.
If a door with an ADA low energy automatic door operator is actuated by a motion sensor, which is not considered a knowing act, it has to meet the requirements of ANSI/BHMA A156.10, which is the standard for high energy automatic door operators which require safety sensors and guide rails.
